Bougainvillea specto glabra ‘Violet de Meze’ (small plant)
The hardiest of the Bougainvilleas, which is arguably not saying much - but this reputedly has lived through -6 / -7 degrees (C) in France without problem.
In my garden it has been unbothered and undamaged by a very occasional -2 / -3….but that is as much as I can report with any confidence.
Unsurprisingly, likes heat and light but seems to produce a lovely colour quite early in the season given that kind of treatment. Responds well to really sophisticated fertilisers (😉) like errr….Miracle Grow.
Sort of ‘Semi evergreen’ outdoors for me, it does keep some leaves through mild coastal UK winters. Not the coloured ones, sadly.
For less mild parts of the country, a fairly straightforward plant to grow in a conservatory or even on a windowsill, although when it grows up it will it eventually want to move out and go and live in Majorca. As do I.
