The problem with Phoenixes is that they are promiscuous and hybridise with any other….Tom, Dick, Harry (or more likely) Phoenix.

The seeds the these (seedling) palms grow from came from the palms in the other pictures.  Which look somewhat like rupicola and somewhat like reclinata and categorically NOT like canariensis which is what the sign on one of the palms showed.

Pure canariensis - they are not.  Wrong dimensions entirely - (narrower trunks by at least 50%) and these palms had much more flamboyantly ‘bouncy’ and tropical looking leaves.  Not as rigid as canariensis leaves.  Canariensis could possibly be one of the parents - but a Phoenix specialist (I kid you not) told me that he didn’t think so - he declared them rupicola.  Then reclinata.  Then rupicola.  Etc.

So the most likely options are reclinata, rupicola, a hybrid thereof, or just possibly a hybrid of one of the bigger ones with roebelleni (?).  But best guess: miss-labelled reclinatas and rupicolas are the mummy and daddy.

As to hardiness: who knows….probably less hardy than canariensis, but you don’t really know with hybrids.
